My students need an ELMO document camera to show and see clearly the solution paths to the problems we are working on and to maximize our time in presenting it to class.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My AP Calculus students are working on problems that make us run out of the board space to present solutions (it's tempting to write on the walls!). Writing it out on the board from what they have in paper takes a lot of time which we could have used up to analyze the problems in depth.
My students come from low-income families but who are very hard-working and diligent students who try their very best to learn the intricacies of a very challenging AP Calculus AB curriculum.
They have committed themselves to come one hour after school two times a week just to go over the concepts we are learning in class. They help each other in explaining different ways of solving the problems and they take pains in practicing and solving problems that they have never met before in their pre-Calculus years.
Despite of the difficulties along the way, they have shown great determination to prepare themselves for the coming AP exam. I am very proud of the effort they are exerting to live up to the class expectations and to continuously challenge themselves.
My Project
The ELMO document reader will be a perfect combination with the multi-media projector that i just recently got for my classroom. This visual presenter will surely enhance the students' experience in presenting their solutions, their projects and any other work that is worth sharing to the class if only to learn from one another.
Having an ELMO document reader will facilitate learning by maximizing our time in presenting solutions to the problems that we are working on. The more problems we learn to solve in class the better prepared we are to take the AP Calculus exam. It will surely boost the confidence of my students to tackle any mathematical problem they face in the future.
Donations to this project is a donation for the future engineers, scientists and mathematicians of our country.
It is like planting a seed of encouragement and inspiration to the students who will be our hope for a brighter future. It is my fervent hope that this will get them inspired to get to science and math related courses in college which this country is in dire need of.
