This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine a group of five to seven students each looking on to their own mini laptop? My students love technology, they are always eager to research new information to increase the amount of knowledge they have. This HP laptop will put a whole new world of knowledge at their fingertips.

I teach a third grade monolingual class.

Our school is located in a high-need, low income community where English is NOT the dominant language of most of our students. My students love it when we use technology to learn new things. Many of our third graders do not have access to technology. Although they work very hard to do their best. They will be taking the New York State Exams this year for the first time very soon. I want to offer my students the exposure to different ways to attain knowledge.

My Project

My goal is to obtain a set of HP mini computers that a small group of children will be able to use throughout the day during different content areas. Our school has provided us with access to Samson's Classroom computer program. My students love it! I have an account in which I create my own word lists that we are currently using in class. Students can practice and study words that we are learning or have learned. When the students log on they interact with spelling games using these words and are so engaged in winning and challenging themselves that they don't even realize that they are reading and spelling words! It is for this reason that I would like to create an area for the students to work in a small group at various times of the day using this program and many others that will support their learning. As third graders they will benefit from having their own media technology lab in our own classroom. I am requesting an HP mini notebook laptop, a mouse, warranty and speakers.

I am requesting these HP mini laptops to provide my students with the possibilities of learning about the world that awaits them.

The knowledge they will gain is endless and it would be right at the tip of their fingers.
