This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At least twice a week I have students ask if they can join the band program at the elementary school. Unfortunately, the program is run on a first-come-first serve basis and we run out of instruments extremely quickly. In addition, some of our instruments are not in the best shape and are in constant need of repairs. I have 80+ fifth graders who would love a chance to play- but I, unfortunately, don't have enough instruments for all of them.
My goal is to add some new instruments to our inventory at the elementary level so that I can accommodate more scholars in grades 3-5.
Participating in the band program helps to build and teach responsibility, teamwork skills and provides scholars with extracurricular opportunities that can help them be more successful as they continue their education.
Being a part of the band program allows our students to feel important and needed. We are a team, we are a family that works together to achieve our musical goals. Music also encourages and motivates students both inside and outside of the music classroom to be the best that they can be.
