This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is a 3rd grade dual language (English-Mandarin) class of about 22 students in District 1 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Most of my students come from low-income families and my school is a Title I school. Many of them receive free lunches based on their socioeconomic status.

Despite the many challenges they face, such as little food at home, my students are always so smiley, kind, thoughtful, and so generous.

They will save their snacks and surprise me by leaving snacks such as an apple, a banana, or a pack of cranberries on my desk! Their words, "You need brain food!" makes my heart melt! They are intelligent, fun loving, creative, and spontaneous.

I am looking to provide my students with hands-on, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. I need your help to make that possible.

My Project

My students will need these back to school basic supplies to do class work and to use them for learning. Not all my students in the class are able to bring these supplies in to start the new school year. In the past, I had bought some of these supplies for my students but things do add up and it gets pretty costly.

Providing access to these basic school supplies will certainly help to reduce a major barrier to my students' learning.

My students need supplies such as Staples #2 wooden pencils, ballpoint blue/black ink pens, Crayola markers to write and draw. I'm also requesting flexible plastic 12" rulers for my students for Math, blank index cards to do artwork and as exit ticket cards. Tapes, marble notebooks and post-its will be useful for our Stop/Think and journaling activities during our STEM and literacy lessons.

Plastic 2 Pocket school folders will be useful for my students to store their written assignments and or to be used as class and or homework folders.

I'm seeking kind donations for these school supplies for my students to provide them with the basic tools to help them learn.

Many thanks for your consideration and help!
