My Students

Did you ever work really hard on a project only to find it never measured up to the others around it? You worked so hard but were heartbroken to see that your work isn't recognized because others had more things to work with than you had access to? I still tear up thinking of one little boy who did.

Inner city kids already have a lot stacked against them and their frustration shows.

Sometimes, as a teacher, you don't even want to show them the world outside because they feel like they can never get there, so why bother. The school is ancient, listed as a candidate for the registrar of historic places, and most of what is there is also ancient. I don't even have a desk! I would like to change the playing field by providing basic materials for creating their projects and even daily assignments. You can have the most amazing research, but unless you can present it to the public in a great format, it doesn't matter. These urban students deserve a chance to make their mark positively by presenting their research on a more level playing field.

My Project

My students need a printer, ink and colored pencils to create science lessons, do projects, and research that can be printed for use on a presentation board. This printer is the same that I bought for my home where I still took student work and printed it out. It does professional work and the ink lasts a very long time. Having this in my classroom will ensure that students get what they need in a timely manner. They will be able to develop and print out what is needed for every project that they work on. They can have access to color copies when necessary and having it in my classroom w ill ensure control of waste. They will be responsible for making sure it is properly used and develop responsibility for "their" materials. I want each student to be able to create journals that include diagrams, which are colored and having true colored pencils will ensure that each student has what they need. I am excited about the possibility!

Your donation will make certain that these children have access to printed materials and colored research materials in a timely manner.

If you could have seen the struggle we had last year, just trying to get one sheet printed that could be read. Most of us have no printer and I was taking so much home that I needed a new one myself! This is durable and will stand up to the students needs and demands, Thank you for making science fair a reality for these students! a future scientist awaits!
