This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In high school, treats are the number one motivator! This year's graduating class is beyond special to me. I currently teach in high school, but was also a middle school teacher to many of my current seniors. We have been through it all, pre-Covid, Covid, and now post-Covid. A student who turned 19 yesterday said to me, "You knew me before I was a teenager." Then several students repeated this. This moment in time had us all pause, and we shared silent thoughts of everything we have been through over the past 7 years. (I digress). Years ago in my middle school, a student drew a campfire on our classroom floor (it came off after a couple of weeks of wear and tear) where we used to read and tell stories around our "campfire." I would like to recreate that vibe as we read and tell stories around a "campfire" (we will probably use the Smartboard this time around, not as exciting, but much cleaner).

This senior class has been through it all and I'd like to create a moment in time where our seniors can reminisce around our "campfire" with smores and snacks.

Though this project may not be funded this current year, the sentiment will remain for my future students. Thank you so much for helping to create a safe, warm, and welcoming environment in every classroom across America because of your generosity.
