Cameras in a Classroom Are a Valuable Tool

Help me give my students a camera that can record slow motion, time-lapse and regular video for school projects, sports science experiments and to film science demonstrations for distance learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are highly motivated and passionate about the health field. They enjoy working with their hands and raising awareness of health conditions. Many students are also part of a health community service club - HOSA, that I also advise. They often volunteer their time and labor to assist with various health-related walks/marathons throughout the year and at the local nursing home/elderly hall. The students are eager to learn more about the human body and put into practice the skills and knowledge they have gained in the classroom.

My students are future health professionals.

They are primarily Filipino and many come from an immigrant background. The students also face financial challenges. As a teacher at a Title I school, I have seen my students have to choose between some experiences because of financial hardship. I wish to provide experiences within my classroom that will help them to achieve their goals and gain skills that they will need for their future careers.

My Project

With distance learning I have come to appreciate the importance of high quality videos. As I taught science classes throughout the year to a fully virtual class I distinctly missed the ability to do laboratory investigations. We performed virtual labs and I also did demonstrations and filmed some experimental data for students to analyze, but a better quality camera would have produced much better results.

A camera that has the versatility to take 5K video, time-lapse, underwater video, slow-motion and still take great quality photos is a great tool for a science classroom.

With this camera I see a multitude of uses in creation of content for students and also students using the camera to create their own material. I plan to use the camera to capture detailed demonstrations that were difficult to film with my laptop or phone such as chemical reactions, explosions, a virtual field trip, time lapse videos and lectures. The camera can also be used by students to set up and film their own experiments. The high shutter speed on the camera will make it easier to track athlete's movements, analyze falling objects, check reaction times and possibly add more data collection to sports science fair projects. The time-lapse videos could give more accurate monitoring of some of the wildlife sites for ecology samplings. The camera could also be used to document student progress and create videos to share with their peers, judges, or the public. The possibilities of a powerful camera is an exciting opportunity that I want my students to have.
