"A picture is worth a thousand words." In journalism, photos can tell as much about an event or story as a written story.
My students are budding student journalists who are eager to document and report on school and community news.
Our school is located in a high-needs, urban area of New York. Many of my students are the first in their families to graduate from high school and go on to college. Our school has a diverse population, including students who are recent immigrants to the US. They are excited about publishing the school newspaper and in need of new equipment to make our publication possible. Unfortunately, our school has limited funding and does not have additional money to purchase new equipment for our school newspaper.
My Project
These new Panasonic digital cameras and memory cards will enable students to learn the skills of photojournalism and capture school and community news. With these new Panasonic cameras, students will have the necessary technology to take pictures of school events, community happenings, and then use these to enhance our print and online publications. In addition to taking pictures, students will learn about principles of photojournalism.
Your donation will bring much needed technology to our classroom and help enhance students' reporting capabilities as a newspaper staff.
Without your assistance, students will not have the opportunity to engage with photography in a meaningful way to enhance and further the newspaper publication process.
