My Students
My students love to get outside and study our local flora and fauna. Our school is near open space and many students live in areas surrounded by parkland. When we take out the insect nets and head for the nearby fields I see faces light up and moods improve.
I love that my students bring me pictures of spiders they found in their bathroom.
The curiosity that nature inspires is so powerful and I feel privileged to share these experiences with my classes.
My Project
As encounters with wild animals are increasing it is so important that we all understand what these critters are up to. Knowing what wild animals live on and around our campus is a great way for students to become more understanding of the creatures in our midst.
Nothing can elevate a student's understanding of wildlife better than experiencing wildlife safely.
Camera traps are an amazing resource and are increasingly used in ecological studies as a non-intrusive way to observe animals. These cameras will allow groups of students to participate in a national effort to monitor the presence of animals in our environments.
