Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach children with disabilities, in a 2/3 combo class. Many of my students are diagnosed with Autism. Many cannot process their sensory (smell, taste, touch, etc.) needs. Weighted items give them a sense of where they are in space. This helps them to calm down when they are overstimulated or overwhelmed by everything around them. Once the child learns to calm down, they can learn! Help support my precious kids. Though I only have 13 students currently, this project will touch children for years to come. The students want to read and learn math. My goal is that they enjoy learning to read and practice math and have fun at their level. I have most grade level curricula at their grade level. However the curriculum doesn’t always meet individual needs. Sometimes a word game or math game helps the concepts sink in. I have many beginning reading games for K/1. My kids have worked so hard, they need harder games! Thank you in advance!
