My Project
When a student struggles with regulating their emotions, it's understood that this student may have a tendency to blow up. When the same student also struggles with not only communicating these emotions but also how to communicate that they need a break, the situation becomes difficult for both the student and the teacher. At our school, all classrooms are to include a calm-down or reset corner where students can take a break and regulate themselves. My students now need support with having tools readily available to them so that their time in that space is actually productive.
With the fidgets requested, teachers will have tactile tools on-hand to offer students that need a physical element to help ground & sooth them.
The counseling office is also a space for students to calm down & work independently without the stressors that exist in the classroom. By requesting a collapsable desk & storage cubes, students will now have the autonomy to use a mini work area within the office to access fidgets, activities, or resources. The bean bag chairs will also allow students an alternative method of decompressing and sitting down within the counseling office.
