Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a high school Special Education Teacher and Academy Director, I am dedicated to supporting students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Navigating teen life can be incredibly stressful, with pressures stemming from academics, home environments, and social interactions—both in-person and online. Recognizing that traditional school settings often lack an alternative space for emotional well-being, I aspire to create an innovative environment that is currently unavailable to students, providing them with a unique opportunity to take a few moments for themselves to rejuvenate and restore.
The materials I have requested will provide my students, who are having a tough day, with a therapeutic art experience surrounded by calming essential oils and soothing music, allowing them to reset, recharge, and find comfort in their creativity.
By establishing this one-of-a-kind space, we will not only create an immediate outlet for students to address their emotional needs but also equip them with valuable transferable skills that they can carry forward into their future. Engaging in creative expression and relaxation techniques will empower them to manage stress effectively, fostering resilience and emotional well-being that will benefit them long after they leave the classroom.
