Calming Sensory Toys for Learning Self-Regulation

Help me give my students calming sensory toys to learn how to calm themselves during high stress times of their days.

My Project

The first graders are bright, curious learners. Many of these students come from single-parent working homes or families where both parents work full-time.

Learning ways to self-regulate by making calming choices such as a quiet space and something to hold, squish or stretch is vital to young children who are learning to cope with various stressors such as transitions, restlessness, overwhelming feelings, or irritations.

This project is designed to give them easy-to-choose, powerful options for calming themselves.

I truly enjoy watching them as they learn from one another in partner work, small groups, and play. They are like sponges soaking up information and learning at a rapid rate.
