Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students with disabilities at times, have difficulties with self regulation. Unable to communicate their wants and needs, they need a special area to help calm them down during stressful, overwhelming, or upsetting situations. A sensory area filled with toys and a sitting area can help my students with sensory stimulation, learn how to interact with the world around them in a safe and supervised environment. Sensory toys such as cause and effect toys, and visually and auditory stimulating toys, can help my students redirect their frustrations and help them improve their moods and emotions. My students are amazing and eager to learn new things. They participate in many classroom and school activities and surprise me on their enthusiasm to engage in new activities.
A sensory calming corner will help my students learn how to recognize, understand, and regulate their feelings at school when they feel overwhelmed.
My students have made significant changes in school and continue to be part of their school community. I want my students to continue to make positive connections and experiences at school. Having a safe area to explore their sensory needs will benefit my students to achieve their goals and further succeed in school.
