This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a reading coach so I get to see all the 22 classrooms in our diverse school for grades 2nd-5th in the industrial section of our city.
Students have a lot of energy and social and emotional needs.
They are learning ways to keep their hands to themselves and make safe choices to create a community of respectful and safe students.
Students come from broken families, shelters, and low income housing. As a result emotions run high and learning is disrupted.
My Project
Students will use the variety of fidgets and calming tools to control their emotional and behavioral concerns in the classroom. This will help the students keep their hands to themselves and channel their anger in a safe way.
These supplies will allow the students to manage their emotions and channel the energy in a positive way in the classroom without missing valuable learning time.
These strategies and tools will help the students learn to calm down and remain in the classroom so no learning time is missed. They can also apply these techniques outside of school too when emotions run high.
