My Project
The mental well-being of students is a priority. With the increasing pressures teens face today, providing teachers with tools that promote a calming and supportive environment is essential. I want to create calming jars for each teacher to help students regulate their emotions, reduce stress, and enhance focus. These jars will be a valuable addition to our social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives, offering students a simple, effective way to pause and practice mindfulness during overwhelming moments.
As the first line of support, teachers are often tasked with helping students calm down and refocus during the school day.
However, they need more tools to help students self-regulate emotions non-disruptively. Calming jars, filled with liquid and glitter, are a visually soothing tool for frustration or anxiety. When shaken, the jars create a swirl that helps students focus their attention and breathe more deeply as they wait for the glitter to settle. This practice aids in self-regulation, which is a key component of SEL.
I am seeking funding to create one calming jar for each teacher at our school, providing an accessible tool during class time. These jars will be used when students need a quiet, grounding moment, helping them reset and return to learning with a calmer mindset. Your support for this project will have a lasting impact, providing teachers with a resource that will benefit students' mental health and contribute to a more focused and peaceful classroom atmosphere.
