This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This will be my third year teaching 1st grade. I would like to create a safe space for students who might be having a hard day. A calm-down corner will help them identify their needs and manage their emotions. They will be able to visit the calming area to try and self-regulate and take time to calm themselves down. We are providing students the opportunity to work on their social and emotional skills. We will be also using the calming corner for quiet reading.
Donating a tent, cushions, easel pads, and other items to this project will provide students with a safe, comfortable, and inviting space.
When students feel safe they are more engaged and motivated to learn.
