Help me give my students a speaker, a beanbag chair, and some snacks for a calming space to take a mental break.

My Project
The students of KA are a group like no other. They are comprised of a variety of backgrounds, races, and cultures. The majority of my students were born and raised in Chicago and possess a love for learning. Teaching through the pandemic brought on a number of issues related to mental health. Students are facing a level of pressure that we haven't encountered before. In this past year, I had several students who experienced grief in the family and friend circle. Some received news while at school and I wish I had a "calming area" for them to process their emotions. Proving students a safe space to take a break from both life and academic challenges is needed and can make a tremendous difference. Studies show that "calming areas" that contain comfortable seating and healthy snacks can put students at ease and encourage them to work through their problems in a safe space. I plan to give the students the snacks as they journal or just take a break in the chair. Some struggle with getting adequate food at home. Music also plays a major part in the healing process. I plan to use the speaker to play calming music and music that connects students to their journaling. Student can be soothed by classical music and other genres that they can connect with. I plan to provide journals to students while in the space in an effort to use writing as a way to reflect and engage in goal setting. Help me help my students heal today by donating.
