This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am creating a calming corner in my classroom with a rug and beanbag chairs. I have a very diverse group of students, in a public charter school, that happens to be all girls. I am trying to teach my scholars that when they feel stressed out or anxious, they have the right to remove themselves and go to a safe space. They have the right to say no, they are not ready for a situation or feelings and want to go somewhere so that they can sort out their feelings on their own. This will translate to the "real world," as even as adults we have not all learned this technique.
