My students come from all over the world and locally and it is amazing to see the experiences they bring to the classroom. I have a group of fourth grades with a variety of learning needs. My students are active, bright children with a desire to learn. They come from a low income area where 60% of the students are labeled economically disadvantaged (NCLB report) 29% are labeled as English Language Learners.
I hope to create a classroom environment where they learn and thrive.
My Project
After 18 months of distance learning, we are fully back in our classrooms. Many of my students are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty. I would like to create a calming corner to help meet the social emotional needs of my students.
The sensory toys are to help them focus on something and create calm within themselves.
I would also like to purchase materials from teachers pay teachers to decorate our calming corner and provide suggestions of activities to do there. For example, instructions for breathing exercises or yoga poses to help calm. Likewise I would love to be able to send materials home with students to help them learn to regulate their emotions in any environment.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
