Calming Corner in Special Education Room

Help me give my students a comfortable calming corner to decompress and learn skills to regulate their emotions through reading and play.

My Project

The comfortable seating option and support stuffed animal will provide students with a designated safe and cozy area to process their feelings when they become dysregulated during the school day.

Many students in our school are living in poverty.

Having snacks accessible in this space is essential to ensure that students are able to have both their physical and emotional needs met.

The variety of social-emotional toys, games, and other calming tools will be extremely helpful in allowing students to regulate their emotions in a way that feels best for them. They are each unique individuals who engage in different calming strategies, just as we adults do! Some students regulate their feelings through realistic play, such as using dollhouses, while others prefer a calming activity like yoga.

Finally, the social-emotional books and stories will be utilized by students to help address a variety of topics. They can be used as both learning tools and calming tools for our special education students.
