Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a special education teacher, one of my focuses is incorporating mental health importance and social-emotional learning into my courses. Building rapport is essential to me as a teacher. Living in a busy city can be a lot to juggle especially for teens. I want to create a space in my classroom where all students feel safe and can regulate their emotions in a healthy way through, visuals and other tactile stimuli. High schoolers are often under a lot of pressure in and out of school having a place where they can disconnect is important.
Having the opportunity to color, build legos, cancel noises, calmness by using fidgets, and disconnect is essential for students to breathe, feel peaceful, and feel grounded.
The calming corner will be beneficial to the entire class community by encouraging social-emotional practices by helping classroom behaviors overall.
