My Project
My students often come to class with other worries/stresses that interfere with learning. Within our class, we offer a calming area where students are able to still participate in class but utilize alternative seating such as the bean bag chairs. In addition, we offer sensory items that allow for fidgeting as well as regulating emotions. My students will also use Legos to build and construct items to allow for a distraction from their emotions. The time with Legos allows them to calm and re join class.
The calming corner provides a safe place for students to go when feeling their emotions are running high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control.
