This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teaching self-regulation in kindergarten involves equipping the children with strategies to manage their emotions, impulses, and behaviors. This includes identifying emotions, developing coping skills, and understanding the importance of following rules and routines. As Student Advisor, I support teachers by assisting them in creating structured environments, giving students positive reinforcement, and help facilitate clear communication to help our kindergarteners develop a foundation for effective self-regulation.
Even in the most structured and caring environments, some students need additional supports in learning how to self regulate.
I would love to offer a refreshed calming corner in my office to help give extra support for the students who need some time away from situations that may be overstimulating to them. This area will provide an opportunity for students to have one on one social emotional learning and behavior reflection in a safe space before returning to the classroom to implement the strategies we will work on together.
