My Project
For twenty-two years, I have been a special education teacher in Pennsylvania. For the last fifteen years, I have worked with students with autism. I love that I have provided pairing with my students by planning through their interests and likes. I have also given them time to explore who they are and what they need to learn, communicate, and feel calm. The community and school have also made this possible with their endless support of putting children first.
I have a room separate from my classroom that is referred to as the wiggle sensory room.
In this room, students have choices of trampolines, spinners, tents, water/sand tables, light tables, car/train tracks, scooters, and toys. This is a period for my students to provide their bodies and brain with the regulation they seek. This project would add a sensory tent and hammock swing to help with feelings of body control and calmness.
