Help me give my students calm place to play. We know that bright colors can be overstimulating to some children which is why I am trying to turn my classroom into a calm and inviting atmosphere.
I teach 2 half-day, PreK classes having up to 20 children in each class. The children vary in ages from 3-5 years old. Each child qualified based on individual at-risk factors. Many of our children enter the program with big feelings which present as behaviors. I am passionate about giving young children the experiences and materials they need to be successful in and out of the classroom.
We are a developmentally appropriate classroom teaching children social-emotional, academic, and motor skills by using hands-on activities.
These are amazing intelligent kids, and I love to see the excitement in their eyes every day!
My Project
This project is composed of one very important item - a large carpet. This carpet will be the center of our classroom. We will use this for our meeting spot and large groups, block play, music time just to name a few. This carpet will be utilized all day everyday.
I am trying to create a nice calming environment for my at risk pre k students.
I have found that traditional primary colors can be overstimulating for some children. I do believe too much stimuli can interfere with the children's learning.
Given the stress levels over the last year I am trying to set my students up for a successful year!
