This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am thrilled to introduce a project that will transform our classroom into a sanctuary for learning and emotional well-being. My students, a diverse and resilient group, come to school eager to learn despite their varied personal challenges. Their zest for knowledge and support for one another is truly inspiring.
Our goal is to create a "Calm Corner"—a dedicated space where students can manage their emotions and find tranquility amidst their busy school days.
This area will provide emotional regulation support, enhance focus through sensory tools, and encourage independence.
To establish this nurturing environment, we are seeking several items:
Headphones to minimize noise and allow peaceful engagements with calming activities.
Storage drawers to organize resources and teach students about maintaining order.
Floor mats for comfortable, defined spaces to relax and engage in mindfulness activities.
Aroma oil and a diffuser to introduce soothing scents like lavender, promoting a serene atmosphere.
Calming lights to soften our classroom’s lighting, reducing overstimulation.
A visual timer to help students manage their time effectively in the corner.
Implementing these resources will not only aid in emotional management but also enhance our students' ability to concentrate and excel academically. Each addition to our classroom is a step towards nurturing their ability to thrive in both school and life.
