Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, my students wish to improve their academic performance and seek to remain focused and balanced throughout the school year. In order to support my highly motivated and engaged students, I wish to give them access to a space that grants them the opportunity to self-regulate their productivity. This calming area is a designated spot where students are free to release their emotions in several ways. With the Rosemary and Lavender plants I have requested, my students’ concentration will improve significantly while simultaneously creating a more welcoming environment for all. The mini piano will serve as musical therapy, which students may rely on if they feel particularly stressed or anxious. The Rubik's and other toys will serve as a relaxer and distraction for my students to use when feeling overwhelmed. Not only will they have the opportunity to distract themselves when feeling such emotions but they will have the ability to improve their muscle memory and other skills that strengthen their critical and logical thinking.
I’ve found that the key for students to successfully study and do math correctly is to have a relaxing and calm mind.
As long as students are mindful, they absorb new material faster and retain them longer. Students need to rest during the day so that their minds can organize their thoughts, and mathematical concepts, or work well with numbers. Otherwise, they tend to make a lot of careless computational mistakes that make them even more nervous or frustrated. Thus, not only will the requested supplies simultaneously create a more welcoming environment for all, they will also be profoundly beneficial to my student’s ability to learn in many subjects and especially in math. These items present in my classroom will be essential in achieving my students' academic achievements.
