Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is full of energetic and vibrant students eager to learn. Thus far they have enjoyed learning about what they are feeling, how to name their emotions, and find healthy ways to cope with what they are feeling. I also have a group of newcomers in my class that have a difficult time communicating with others in the 2nd language they are expected to learn. Having the two sided board in a calming corner would benefit in terms of being able to draw or write what is bothering them.
At times the student need help learning how to take a breath when overwhelmed, so having a comfortable area in which they can sit and practice breathing with the help of a breathing board to guide them.
Flexible sitting in a calming area of the room, like the flex seating bags and wiggle seats wold be a plus to their opportunity to sit either alone or with a friend that share similar feelings. We live in a time in which students have not yet learned how to cope with life and its challenges and having this calming retreat would be a great start.
