it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After distance learning during COVID, many students returned to school full of anxiety and lacking the skills needed to cope with the everyday stresses of school, family, and their social worlds. I am requesting a loveseat, beanbag chairs, a coffee table and more for a space to help them process an experience, relieve anxiety or de-escalate when they are having a difficult time. With the materials, I will create a safe, warm and comforting place where students can have the space and time to manage and process their emotions. Often, students feel cornered, trapped and unable to cope in the common classroom space and leave the classroom and/or situation without any resolution. In the reflection area, students will have the opportunity to learn coping and problem solving strategies, so that they may return to their classroom routine ready to learn.
