Help me give my students a couch, toy transportation, lego blocks and books which help them channel their emotional energy and successfully navigate how to calm themselves.
I love how each of my students is socializing with their peers and teachers. They are discovering how to establish friendships and integrate their growing understanding of emotions or feelings through clear guidelines and boundaries set for them.
Importantly, a designated 'Calming Corner' in my classroom is what makes for a reliable and nurturing environment that helps students manage their unique social and emotional development.
Using the couch, emotions-themed books, blocks, and transportation toys is integral in welcoming students especially when they need to regulate their emotions given various situations and individual learning styles. The availability of appropriate equipment, books, and toys provide a safe and delicate opportunity for the students who experience a need to process their feelings and thoughts to successfully express themselves. As I would say, come and let's calm.
