This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second-grade class loves learning! We learn at our desks, in line, and on the rug. We learn as a whole group, in small groups, with partners, and on our own. I believe the best learning happens when our bodies are comfortable, and our emotions are regulated. A calming corner would be a great addition to our classroom to help the students de-escalate when moments become difficult to work through.
Sometimes all a student needs is some time and space to reconnect with themselves.
I have selected furniture, books, and art activities that will be the space where the students will be allowed to do just that. The rug and floor cushions will give them a comfortable place to sit and relax. The supply cart will be stocked with colorful pens, notebooks, markers, and scratch activities organized in a storage center. It will also have books and mindfulness prompt cards for guidance or directions. The building block pieces, finger mazes, and pop puzzles can help those that need those sensory activities. They will have the opportunity to read, draw, write, and work with sensory objects that will encourage them to breathe and embrace their calm.
