Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The student population at my HS is made up of newcomers, English language learners, culturally diverse, at-risk youth who are working against all odds to earn their high school diploma. They have faced hostile learning environments and encountered situations which force them to shut down and/or develop unhealthy coping mechanisms.

At our high school, we aim to provide our students with a safe and healthy learning environment and a calming area for students to begin to accept and learn from their difficult experiences and emotions.

Our calming room hopes to support students with emotional de-escalation effective problem solving, and help them replace unhealthy coping mechanisms with healthier ones that will have more of a benefit to their lives. Please help us support our students and make it easier for them to access mental health resources that they have not been exposed to in the past.
