Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to provide my students a calming area in the classroom for them to use to practice self-management whenever they feel upset. The canopy and seating pads will make them feel cozy and it will feel like a special place to them. They can use the calming tools to identify their feelings and emotions to better manage stress, self-regulate and control their impulses. The sensory toys can help them de-escalate when they feel overstimulated. Learning how to communicate feelings and emotions can be difficult for some but with the calming area I hope they learn to practice mindfullness and skills to learn how to distress.
