This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am in my third year of teaching in a low income school in South Los Angeles. In my 3 years of teaching I have learned that one of the major things that can keep a student from giving their all in learning is a worried mind.

My first goal in becoming a teacher was to work with students who had a difficult time in the classroom with both academics and behavior.

I have students who are not working at grade level and I have noticed their frustration when they have difficulties. Their frustration can at times turn into anger and a fixed mind set.

The items picked will help provide my students an area to recharge with the use of manipulates, comfy rug and pillows to sit on during meditation and breathing, and calming lights to help soothe their minds. A calming area in my classroom will provide my students with the opportunity to learn new strategies on how to deal with their emotions and express themselves in a positive way. It will also provide them a safe space whenever they are in need of a break. Help me start providing students at a young age with strategies that will help them for a lifetime!
