This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have a group of boisterous 6th graders. They are helpful, curious and stuck between being little kids and pre teens. This CALMING AREA will help my students build skills and learn ways to de-escalate! This area will be a calm designated space with the sole intent of being a safe space for a student to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control.
A Calming Area is a useful strategy to include in the classroom, it will help my students process an experience or de-escalate when they are having a difficult time.
In this space I will have a bean bag and foldable seats for kids to sit alone or in a group. This space will provide tools and resources that will help students build their skills by engaging in mindful activities like journaling, drawing, breathing, building or simply just sitting quietly.
