it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are SMALL, but their emotions are BIG. As a counselor of a Span School (TK-8), I work with kids, from little to big. Most of our students struggle with emotions and coping strategies. This, unfortunately, affects academics, which then becomes a cycle for students. They have big emotions which then causes them to have big feelings in class, which then causes them to miss out on important instruction.
My goal is to help students be successful, both emotionally and academically, by learning not only to identify their feelings but also strategies to regulate them and tools to cope with the struggles that they may face in their lives.
Having the tools to help students self-regulate will allow them to learn techniques to break that cycle and improve their coping and academics.
There are a lot of resources on Teachers Pay Teachers to allow me to learn additional strategies to meet with students and help them regulate their emotions. The gift cards will allow me to build upon my library of counseling resources. The emotional resources and sensory tools I chose will also help me form a "calm corner" so students can work on their feelings in a safe space. All these tools will allow me to meet and help them regulate their emotions while in a safe and welcoming space.
