it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My amazing preschool class is filled with amazing preschoolers with a variety of disabilities, including Autism. My students are learning to talk, play, socialize and develop social emotional skills. This school year I have noticed a huge need for social emotional learning. Currently my students are learning how to self regulate. They really needed extra time, love and support to understand their emotions and feelings when they become overly frustrated, sad, or upset. It is so hard to watch their small bodies tremble with emotions that they don’t understand and can not handle. My students need a safe comfy calming place to just be until they are ready to rejoin the class.
A Quiet Time Privacy Cube and a cushion will provide a safe space to go within the classroom to help them calm, reflect and relax.
For children on the spectrum, having a space available is essential for when they are over stimulated or just simply overwhelmed. Currently, we are using pictures, stories and puzzles to teach social emotional learning. However to have a safe calming space that is always available would be so amazing. In my minds eye, I can picture it filled with calming signs, a few furry friends, pillows and books that promotes engagement with print and symbols. A nice private place free to go to when they just need to get away.
The Quiet Time Privacy Cube is a sturdy wooden cube with an open design that keeps students fully visible so staff can monitor the student and they can see and hear the lessons that are being taught. I love the fact that the cushion is a soft vinyl cushion that adds comfort, yet it can be easily cleaned. Thank you in advance for taking the time read our project Calming Cozy Cube.
