This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'd like to create a calming area for my students in our classroom. Young children often have trouble regulating their emotions and I'd like to support their emotional development and social-emotional learning by establishing a calming area in our classroom. By anchoring a space with a rug, my students will have the resources needed to help them soothe themselves and regulate their emotions with the resources requested (fidget spinners, emotion cubes, plushies, wobble stools, calming strips, emotion Legos). The toy chest will be used for storage of all the resources and the poster sets will be used as visual reminders of how to talk about and regulate our feelings. The lava lamps and aquarium will offer a soothing and sensory-regulatory mood for the calming area. With your support my students will have a great calming area to support their social-emotional development and their education!
