This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The majority of my preschool special needs students are still learning to identify their emotions, express them, and use strategies and resources to help them regulate. The vast majority of my students come into my class lacking these skills and benefiting from explicit support and guidance. Currently, when my young become sad, angry, overstimulated, or the like, they do not have access to a calming corner with differentiated and developmentally appropriate tools and resources. My special education preschool program does not provide funding or these crucial resources for my students which they very much deserve and would benefit from. The materials that I have selected for my project would provide my students with a safe, comfortable, and positive place for them to explore and work through their feelings. Here they can choose from a variety of the materials that I have selected to understand their feelings (books), sensory items to cope (cuddle ball, stress ball, fidget toy), and strategies to regulate (mindful breathing board, calm down cubes). All that my little ones need is your help to get these items into our calming area!
