This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Not all student are comfortable sitting in a counseling office, talking about their thoughts and feelings; however, by creating a calming area, my students will be able to identify a safe space where they can take a break to self-regulate, practice positive coping skills, and eventually reintegrate into the classroom, prepared to learn. Counseling sessions can also be conducted in the calming corner to make the environment more inviting and less formal. The materials will be used to promote positive school climate & culture.

My students are advocates for mental health and truly utilize resources on our campus community- they depend on them.

They demonstrate self-awareness, not just about themselves but also their community. By funding this project, you are not only helping us create a safe space, but also validating our students feelings about needing a positive school climate that promotes their mental health- which has been a major need as a result of the pandemic. We are not only looking to reconstruct our school community, but also our students mental health post-pandemic.
