This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that despite what my students have been through and the community they live in, they are resilient and show up to school ready to learn. They have taught me a lot about community and overcoming adversity. Research has shown that it is hard for children to learn when they are stressed, traumatized or distracted.

Through the "Calming Area," I am hoping to provide a healing space where they can manage their emotions, settle their minds and feel safe.

Most students who come into my classroom have faced challenges and traumas and it would be so nice to provide them a space where they can tap into mindfulness and calm their minds and bodies. I believe these funds will enhance the environment of the classroom and create this for these students.
