This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My precious students are only four years old and many have never had any school experiences or many social interactions with other children outside of their home environments. My students are very special to me because they have an enormous desire to learn everything. As their teacher, I am honored to provide them with not only foundational academic skills but highly important self regulation skills which will hopefully improve their social relations and last their lifetimes.

As part of their social-emotional learning experiences, my students must develop self-regulation techniques for calming themselves down.

I want to make their socio-emotional learning experiences fun. Kids love to play. When they are experiencing meltdowns or other out-of-control feelings, I want them to have a special classroom area where they can escape to, relax, and understand their feelings while using the tactile stimulating activities requested.

In the calming area, my students will enjoy kinesthetic experiences as they deescalate their feelings while exploring a calming tube, a liquid discovery tube, sensory windows, emotion wooden match-ups, sensory windows, and a feelings magic board. Such items will be enjoyably and positively stimulating but calming. Students will in turn feel so relaxed and even happier but most importantly…calmer.
