This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Often during the school day, my kindergartners become overwhelmed, anxious, fearful or overstimulated. They need a safe, calm and quiet space to de-escalate and regroup. I would like to create a calming area equipped with multiple tools to meet their needs.
These calming sensory materials along with the weighted lap and shoulder pads and a variety of flexible seating options will allow them the space to regain their composure so that they can return to instruction and engage in classroom activities.
My students will be taught how to use this space to help them manage their emotions and stress to aid their personal and academic success.
