Help me give my students a light table with sensory manipulatives that they can utilize to build their fine motor skills and develop self soothing techniques to calm down when anxious.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach kindergarten at a Title I-funded school and over the years I have noticed that many students have a hard time coming in from lunch. I see them over stimulated and too anxious to be able to function in class. My goal is to build a calming corner with sensory materials that they can be used to relax, stay calm, or even let out some frustration. In order to do so I would like to provide my students with a light table and some sensory manipulatives that they can use when we come in from lunch and our belly breathing is just not enough for them to calm down.
