This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teaching students positive coping skills and helping them identify their own triggers is important for their overall health. The goal for this project is to utilize all items and tailor them to fit the needs of all students. Having a carpet, pillows, bean bag chairs, SEL books and toys will help students get in tune with all their senses: Sight, Hearing, Taste, Touch, and Smell.
Our students will utilize the carpet to re-regulate themselves while making sure they are comfortable in bean bag chairs.
Our students who are feeling overwhelmed will have the opportunity to stay inside the canopy to practice their breathing skills.
Students have different ways of learning. Relaxing does not always mean sitting down, having fidget toys, LEGOs, Play-doh, and toys that can help support the needs of all students. The diffuser can support our students' smell sense as a way to help them calm down as a form of aromatherapy.
The outcome of these items is to help students learn to regulate themselves.
I will utilize the "FOCUS" curriculum to help support students with their emotions. One of the key things during this evidence-based practice is the use of a feelings thermometer. Students are able to identify what they are feeling. The KIMOCHIS will allow students to connect what they learn during my group and use it when they are feeling in need of social-emotional support.
