This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The use of a calming area in a Special Education class occurs almost daily, and my students need the support of a safe cool-down corner. Using the cool-down corner is a way for students with difficulties to practice mindfulness, and learn strategies to self-regulate. My students with and without disabilities and especially students with autism need sensory tools and colorful visual prompts to support their time to reset in the cool-down corner. Our classroom does not have a printer to print visual supports, calm breathing posters, cues, or PECS.
By donating to our project, you will help students regain their emotional and physical control; providing a safe space for them to find focus again which will positively impact their academic achievement.
Students need a calming area full of sensory tools, to have a space to practice improving their self-regulation skills and breathing techniques. These headphones, rocker chairs, and sand will help students avoid frustration, anxiety, and meltdowns. The pocket chart will provide students with techniques for self-regulating.
