Help me give my students a calming corner where they can recharge and be ready to learn. We need a rug, cushions, storage baskets, sensory toys, stress balls, and some books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me give my students a calming area that they can go to when they are feeling overwhelmed with emotions. Currently, I work with 26 6th graders who are going through a lot of emotional changes; sometimes a break is all they need to refocus and recharge. In a day I have students who can go from happy to mad within seconds, and this calming corner will allow them the space they need. The calming corner would provide a space for students to relax through coloring or using fidget toys, as well as a place to complete their class work in an independent area that is soothing.
My students are beginning to feel new emotions, and it is important for me to provide a safe space for them.
I know of a few students who could benefit from having a calming corner. Many times they come to school already overwhelmed, and the frustration throughout the day can cause them to become distracted and hinder their learning. A calming corner would allow these student to refocus their energy, and become amazing learners.
