Calm Students Learn Better

Help me give my students flexible seating and sensory learning toys for a comfortable calm down area in which they can safely sit, bounce and explore sensory toys and actovities .

My Project

My students are a diverse amazing group of low functioning students who have Autism and other disabilities. They attend a self contained school in a large city. There are 6 students who are learning on the extensions of the Standard course of study.

Due to their disabilities, my students often get frustrated and act out.

This is why we need some materials to make a calming area for the students. It will give them a small safe area in which to learn self calming skills while exploring sensory materials. The teardrop bean bag chair will give them a soft safe area in which to sit while they calm down or when they need a spot to relax during the day. It would also be a safe alternative seating option for my student who is in a wheelchair. The large balls will help with movement when seated. Sitting and bouncing gives my students a chance to participate in seated activities while still moving. One student is deaf and needs hands on activities that encourage her sensory exploration since she uses her senses of sight and touch to learn.
