Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students within my classroom are often working hard to make better choices regarding their behavior and academics. Some of the biggest hurdles we face include helping the students stay focused, and meeting their basic needs so that there are fewer distractions that are out of their control. In a behavior-focused classroom like ours, there is often a lot of activity that can distract from individual work. With headphones and fidgets the students will be able to focus on their work and be more productive.
Stress and anxiety are often another distraction within our classroom, with fidgets and puzzles the students will be able to self-advocate and take a break to calm down and refocus.

Having the ability to take some time to have a brain break will allow students to be more effective with their time. We also know that an empty belly can be the biggest distractor of all. Snacks will help students focus as they learn. Having snacks and hygiene products, like the requested tampons, drinks, and crackers, will help the students feel safe knowing that their basic needs will be met.
The students in our classroom are learning the valuable lesson that failure is simply a steppingstone to success. Allowing them a safe and calm environment decorated with growth mindset posters and other decor will encourage them to really explore their full potential toward being an effective and productive learner.
